Why "Talk Pretty" exists
Being right isn’t enough. Technical founders learn that the hard way.
I’ve seen it too often to call it luck. The better product loses. The clearer roadmap gets ignored. A team that solved the real problem walks out of the meeting confused, while a competitor with half the substance walks out with the check. None of that is fair. All of it is fixable.
The gap is rarely the technology. The gap is how you explain it.
Builders describe their work the way they built it: feature by feature, in order, every caveat intact. It’s honest and thorough, and it’s backwards from how people decide to care. The person across the table doesn’t want to know how it works. They want to know what changes. Make them wait for that answer and they’re already gone.
This newsletter is about the unglamorous version of the fix. You lead with why it matters, then what you’re claiming, and you keep the proof ready for when someone asks. It has nothing to do with slicker slides or bigger adjectives. I call it talking pretty, half as a joke and half because it’s the most underrated leverage a founder has.
Every issue, I take one piece of it apart: a positioning move, a pitch pattern, a story that worked or didn’t, and how we talk about technology so people lean in instead of nod along.
If you’re building something good and you’re tired of watching it get misunderstood, you’re in the right place.
Let’s tell a better story.
